Tell-Tale Heart

Description

The undying heart of his vulture-eyed victim kept pounding the killer ever deeper into madness. This is my abstractionist offering as a take on the premise of Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Tell-Tale Heart", as entry into Lifetime Channel's "Witches of East End"-sponsored deviantART contest for art entries on such story. Poe himself wasn't offering "pc" or "cutsey gloss-over" in his story; the killer dismembered the body of his "vulture-eyed" victim (thus my use of a mosaic heart with vulture-eyed appendages), hid the parts under a floor, then although asserting at first a stony persona the killer keeps having hallucinations of his victim's heart haunting him everywhere (represented by a distorted stony persona, and jagged mental environment in which he perceives this heart) .

The ashen figure was not made with fractal utilities, but was inspired by the bronze casting designed by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux while in 19th century Italy, itself derived from Dante's Inferno and titled "Ugolin et ses fils"; the heart was created using fractal utilities of GIMP (including Mathmap, G'MIC); and JWildfire provided the pointy background.
